Its seems to me that dating sites are scams?

Do you have an experience or a reason for me not to join one of those sites. I am ready to get back into the dating scene, it just seems harder and harder these days to find a date, especially as I am in my forties. Some advice would be right on.

1. ya i got one they cost you money just to join and they arent like real relationship and most people put up fake photos and fake ages
2. well it can be dangerous as there are a lot of weirdos out there. but you never know untill you try

4. It's feast or famine out there! A good portion are true freaks.
5. I attended a wedding this summer for a family friend who just turned 50. He and his now-wife met on e-Harmony and have been perfectly happy ever since. I think dating sites can be pretty hit or miss, though I've never tried. Just a nice success story for you.
6. Its not easy, and I really dont think it is always the site. Alot of it has to do the kind of people that are on the sites. You really have to get lucky to find someone worthwile. I actually met my girl on Craigslist believe it or not. That was after alot of searching.
7. I don't think so. I think that the stigma behind online dating is starting to fade. I'm thinking of subscribing to match.com. These days it seems like everyone is online and using the internet for everything else anyways might as well use it to meet someone right?
8. well i think www.match.com maybe. they play a lot of those commercials. but i dont really know a lot about dating cites so just give it a shot.
9. Spent money and have got no matches, never again for me. It has been a year and just finally canceled my profile. Waste of money!
10. Honestly they are hit or miss... I have known quite a few people who have used match.com with no success, and had a friend who used e-harmony and married the woman he met there. (However considering the relationship they had, I would not reccomend e-harmony to my worst enemy) So overall, from what I have seen they do not work all that often. What is funny however is that I met my fiance on a site (AFF, adult friend finder of all places actually) and we are perfect for each other. (*chuckle* though, from what I have heard from some friends who are still on there, that site has become basically just for swingers and hookups since then... so be careful if you are looking for a relationship on there.) So who knows... The big thing to remember is alot of people lie through their teeth on the sites so be really really careful if you use them. So if you do go on the sites, be honest about yourself, do NOT use "date behaviour" on your profile. Because they are only going to see what you present, if you present yourself falsely they will notice.
