Can personal dating sites keep someone's picture and account up even after they have cancelled?

An ex keeps showing up on the personal dating sites. I asked why she was still on there, and she claims they continue to show her picture, and even show she has logged on occasionally. She is obviously logging on, she claims they keep sending her emails, but wouldn't she still have to log on? Otherwise I can't imagine why it would still keep showing her pictures and her logging on.
