i've been using okcupid for several months now. i HAVE met with guys before, and my experiences so far have been good. i'm a pretty good judge of character, so i usually feel pretty confident that i understand a person before i meet them. i can often even tell why most people are on the site....like they have an awkward look, or bad social skills ect. so i feel like i understand their purpose for using this dating approach. here's my problem. recently a very attractive guy has contacted me. he's athletic, seems like he was very popular in HS and wears abercrombie clothes. now me, i'm an art chick. i have a few piercings and experiment with hair colors. normally, people like him think my type is "weird". he seems very interested in me and says it's because he's tierd of shallow trashy girls that just want to hook up and he can tell i have a good mind and kind heart. which to be honest, most people in my life would back up. i'm not the coolest person in the world. i'm not a 10, but i'm definitely a person of substance. the messages he's sent me show he really does have a deeper side to him, but i'm worried. he's some hot jock who is new to the site and says i'm the only person he's messaged and he REALLY likes me. could he be a really smooth player who is very good at understanding what to say to me. he leaves me very long sincere messages. i need opinions! this is me, but don't rate thanks! http://www.flickr.com/photos/22765038@N02/2391868756/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/22765038@N02/2223411505/

You are probably correct. But he could be a closet geek and actually likes your type but is afraid to act the part for fear of what his peers would say. Not all people dress or act the person they truly are.

just give him a chance. im a popular jock but im also a really nice guy. you can't just assume what someone is like because of the group they are in. the worst that is going to happen is you meet him and he isn't what you thought, then you move on. i know you said not to rate your pics but you are a very cute girl =)

I didn't read all that and take it all in but if it helps I think you are gorgeous in your own unique way!! But here's my answer. I think you should get to know him a bit more and keep your guard up. I mean you just met him and you should just play it safe for now. He seems nice and sweet and jocks can be sweet guys ya know, but you really don't know him well. Just talk for a bit longer and get to know his personality more and then meet him. I mean oppisites attract :):) I think you guys will be good together.
Sounds like he might actually be for real. You are very pretty, whatcha talkin about, lol. I would say give it a shot and see what happens. Think of it this way, girls like you dont usually go for guys like him neither so.... It might be a good thing. But keep your distance and take it slow. Sometimes those popular jocks do stuff like this to play a joke or a bet, you know what I mean. You also dont want to get your heart broken or anything. Another thing you can do , is talk to him and be honest and straight foward. Say, you know, whats the deal, guys like you and girls like me, dont usually get together. Well first of all you're really pretty. If you think you're a good judge of character, then go for it. Maybe go on a date, then if you still have a good feeling about it then who knows, you know what they say- opposites attract.
you are amazingly pretty. i have the same problem you have, i have the tattoo's & piercings, weird hair color etc. Everybody in HS thought i was weird, but after HS all the cheerleaders and jocks and stuff got in contact w/me just to talk and thought i was really cool. Most jocks have a weird sense in girls. Just like the tv shows, where the jock is dating the gothic girl.. It always ends up weird. Opposites attract.
BOY OH BOY... When a guy shows interest in a girl, girls question are motives. When a guy shows interest in just the pot of gold between the L**'s then we are azz holes! There are a few good guys out there, just maybe you found one.
So what's your question? Maybe he's a slick player, maybe he's sincere. Maybe he uses his hotness to manipulate people, maybe he's tired of people seeing only the hotness and ignoring the good guy underneath. The point is you'll never know until you meet him in person and really get to know him. Words and photos online are a great introduction, but they can only tell you so much. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt - if you can tell right away that they are no good, then cut your losses, but if you're not sure, give them a chance. Look, it's just a few dates. You don't have to start a relationship or sleep with him or marry him. Just give it three dates and see what happens. You're not going to fall too deep in love in three dates, so there's no harm done, at worst just a waste of three evenings. At best, you'll both find someone you can relate to underneath the surface. (p.s. If you don't want people to rate you, then don't post your picture. Your "art chick" look is pretty, but it may not be to everyone's taste, just like "country farmboy" or "steroid meathead" might not be to everyone's taste.)
