Popular Online Dating

Are dating sites replacing clubs and bars?

Since online dating is very popular these days, I was just wondering if the business at the local club and bars are down a little bit? Especially the clubs where people (at least men) go mostly to mingle with the other sex. Wonder if there are any studies or research done on this topic.

  1. Dating sites aren't replacing clubs -- myspace is. In all seriousness, social networking sites aren't really disrupting business in terms of what you speak of. A lot of people would still rather go out to clubs, drink, listen and dance to music with each other -- its not going stop anytime soon.
  2. nahhh they are both different enough to be interesting perhaps the club scene is better for the younger person though and the other suits the older person ...not totally ..just slightly better....least ya dont have to wear make-up...lol
  3. I believe that is has to a certain degree however it has opened up the dating world to a group of people who had a hard time getting dates before because of several reasons. For example, looks, social behavior, location etc. These days even people who live in areas where no bars or night clubs are available are actually able to find a partner. Also, when we get older like me...lol...I only go out to people watch these days. I did infact meet my fiancee on eHarmony over a year ago, and to go to clubs gets old after a while, at least it did for me. I worked from home but I still had a need to see people so I went out once a week to just see other people, but it wasn't there I met my dates. It was online for sure. I believe that there is still a huge market for people to go to bars and clubs but the internet opened it up for many people who don't like bars for various reasons or because they didn't have access to it. The younger crowed will always go out and I don't think that will change. But I am sure that even those people utilize the internet to find quality dates.
